How to Style a Long Cardigan
Welcome to January in Florida, where the mornings are cold, and the afternoons are not. Over the course of one day, you’ll experience true winter weather (or at least our version of winter) in the morning and then hit the beach in the afternoon. The weather here is definitely unpredictable, but I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
I have perfected the art of dressing for Florida’s crazy changing temperatures. The key is definitely layers. One of my absolute favorite layers is a nice, long cardigan. I can’t think of an item of clothing that’s more versatile. I love wearing them over dresses, denim, leggings…everything! Here are some of my favorite ways to style a long cardigan.
I’m pretty sure I’ve mastered this whole “transitional weather” thing with this simple outfit formula: take your coziest winter cardigan, add a pretty Spring dress, and finish the look with light booties. Voila! It’s that simple. Here are some great cardigan + dress combos for you to try out this season.

If a cozy cardigan is a girl’s best friend, then denim is next in line. You just can’t beat a great pair of jeans, and of course it doesn’t hurt that you can wear them with anything. This time of year, you’ll catch me wearing jeans and a long cardigan at least once a week. It’s the perfect cozy go-to.
I love mixing neutrals for a clean, classic look. The great thing about neutrals is they all go together, so you really can’t go wrong. Try pairing a taupe cardigan with a white top or a grey top with a cream cardigan. The options are truly endless!
Bodysuits work great under a long cardigan for a streamlined, chic outfit. I paired this black bodysuit with a dark wash denim for a monochromatic look. Then I just layered with this cozy cardigan and added my favorite pair of sneakers, and I was ready to take on the day in style!
I also love using cardigans to play with color. This fun sherpa style adds a nice pop to my outfit and plays well with the colors in this graphic tee.
And of course, probably my favorite way to wear a long cardigan: over leggings. It’s amazing how the addition of a cardigan can completely change up a pair of leggings and a graphic tee.
This cardigan from Daydreamer is an absolute favorite of mine, and it was recently restocked. I even asked for the other color for Christmas because I just can’t get enough of it.
If you’re looking for a comfy, but put together outfit, just take your favorite band tee and add a long cardigan and a great pair of sneakers. This is the perfect look for a mom on the go. You can even throw on some jewelry to mix it up and make it your own.
I also love to throw a long cardigan over an all-black outfit to break it up and add some color.
