With a new year usually comes the feeling of a fresh start. New year, new goals. Throughout this past holiday season, I have had Chris Tomlin’s version of “Joy to the World” on repeat in my head. The lyrics sing about Joy that rises in my soul and never me go. An Unspeakable Joy! You see, I have these two kiddos. And the older they get, the more they look to Kris and I and model our behavior. Every day I pray that I am exemplifying the right thing and raising them to be the best versions of themselves. Every day I worry I will do something that will mess them up. I don’t take this job that has been given to me lightly. I want my kiddos to know joy. The REAL joy that gives them peace as they grow up in an unstable world.
So one of my goals this year to be an example of joy for my kiddos. I will not be a peppy cheerleader 24/7. This is not the joy I am writing about today. I want to not sweat the small stuff. Show them there is joy in giving. Show them true joy and happiness doesn’t come from always doing what you want. I want the kiddos to learn that their happiness doesn’t depend on their circumstances or what someone has said. Joy comes from forgiving and forgetting. I want them to not only know but understand what people say does not define YOU. Do you best and work your hardest. I write all of this for myself as much as for Brydon and Audrey. I am not perfect and I will have to be reminded to re-read this post myself.
What are your goals for 2018?
Wishing you a Happy New Year! Make 2018 your best one yet!!
